From a functionalist perspective, why does social inequality exist in society? How would a Marxist theorist critique a functionalist perspective on social inequality? Support your critique of functionalism with trends concerning wealth and/or social mobility in the United States.

From a conflict perspective, what does it mean that racism in the U.S. is ‘systemic?’ How would a conflict theorist understand the relationship between race and social institutions?
