Research for English 1302 over the theme of Good versus Evil in “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and ” Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been”

July 28, 2024/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Admin

For this major essay, you will write a comparative analysis of “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and “Where Are We Going, Where Have We Been?”, while also including secondary sources to support your analysis. In your essay, you can choose what specific literary elements to focus on, but you must have a central focus–an overall theme(s) that you’re exploring. This essay must be a minimum of 2,000 words in length (this is the essay itself, which does not include the Works Cited.) You must include a minimum of 4 secondary sources (this does NOT include the two primary texts). These must be credible, peer reviewed sources found through TJC’s library/online database ONLY, unless you have my permission for a source found elsewhere. The introduction should capture the reader’s interest, state the stories’ title and author, and end with a well developed thesis statement. Each body paragraph should have a clear topic sentence that connects to the thesis and must include at least 1 quote/paraphrase with proper citations that support your claims. Remember to effectively integrate with your own words. No more than 2 block quotes are allowed. The conclusion should successfully wrap up your essay and revisit your thesis. No new main ideas should be explored in the concl. A separate Works Cited page should be attached to the back of your essay. Any sources listed on the Works Cited page must be included in the essay, shown by in text citations. You must use the stories from the textbook. This essay should use an academic voice, 3rd person. NO 1st person should be used. Also, avoid using 2nd person (you) when referring to your audience. Remember to also use an “active voice” when discussing the texts. This essay must follow proper MLA formatting: double spaced, centered Title (must include a key phrase, authors, and story titles: for example, The Allusion of Satan in O’Connor’s “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and Oates’s “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?”), 1 inch margins all around, proper .5 indentations, proper spacing between paragraphs, 12pt Times New Roman font, header with Last Name & pg# in upper right hand corner, and Name, Professor, Class, and Date (November 16, 2018) on the first page (only) upper left hand corner.
