OVERVIEW In this option, students will compile a listening portfolio of 20 recordings of musical works from multiple historical periods and genres. Discuss each piece, incorporating the elements of music covered in this course like melody, harmony, rhythm, form, texture, and timbre. INSTRUCTIONS Compile a listening portfolio of 20 recordings of musical works from multiple historical periods and genres. Your listening list can include some folk, world, jazz, and popular music, as long as your list represents a good balance of different periods and genres of music. You should discuss each recording using musical terminology that you have learned in this course, covering elements like melody, harmony, rhythm, form, texture, and timbre. This paper should be at least 1000 words in length not counting the works cited list. The works cited should include a variety of sources, including at least one source in print. The paper and works cited list should be in MLA format. If you need to brush up on MLA format, see the MLA Toolkit through the CCCOnline Library Your paper should include the following sections: Introduction that prepares the reader for the information to follow. Body that covers every piece in your listening portfolio. Conclusion that wraps up the paper with at least one major take-away point. Works Cited list that includes a variety of sources. You should cite every recording mentioned in your portfolio, as well as any supporting sources that you used in your research.
