This assignment is for you to engage in a naturalistic observation of children ranging in middle-childhood age. It shouldn’t take more than an hour or so of observation to complete this assignment. The goal is to look for behaviors that indicate they are in middle-childhood. You have over two weeks to complete this.
For your paper:
Should be 2-3 pages double spaced, not including COVER or bib page; 11-12 font, .5 or .25 margins; Sources cited, bring in one besides textbook!!!!
Consider incorporating the following:

1. What/who did you observe? [for example, 14-year-old African American boy; 9-year-old Caucasian girl].
2. What did you observe them doing? What did you observe ABOUT THEM: what physical features helped you KNOW that they were in adolescence?

3. What did you observe them doing that solidifies that they are in the Concrete Operational Thinking Stage [Piaget]

4. What did you observe them doing that solidfies that they are the Industry vs. Inferiority Stage [Erikson]

5. Was there anything odd or different from the ‘norm’ based on your observation?

6. What is your overall impression of the abilities [cognitive and socio-emotional] of each of the children you observed? Why?

7. Other thoughts or considerations?

NOTE: if you are going to describe an adolescent feature or behavior, be sure to cite it as the research shows as well as presenting your findings.
