Define Problem- Unable to afford basic needs for myself and family Determine Objective- Provide a fulfilled, safe, and healthy lifestyle for myself and family. To include house, food, clothing, education opportunities, etc. Explore the alternatives- Why is this person in need of welfare? Recently divorced? mismanaged budget? loss of job? etc.. Alternatives could be- move to lower cost of living area, minimize liabilities, sell assets to reduce debt, find a higher paying job, enroll in a technical school or other educational option to increase marketability for higher paying job, etc Predict consequences- of being off or on welfare Make a choice- to apply or not apply for welfare
