The 1950s is often considered an idyllic time in American history – a time of success and post-war euphoria. Conformity amongst Americans an expectation for many, but also a challenge for those who felt as though American society was forcing them into a corner. Compose a two page essay which answers the following prompt: —Discuss the emphasis on conformity in the 1950s. Why was there such an emphasis on conformity in America and how did it manifest itself? What movements challenged this conformity and why?
