Webliography

We ask students to select a story, can be any of the stories or articles of the following, and write about what that means to the student. (write 2 paragraphs) https://www.inquisitr.com/5389502/facebook-reveals-hidden-and-inappropriate-messages-in-oculus-vr-devices/ https://www.digitaltrends.com/social-media/facebook-tribute-tab-memorialized-accounts/ https://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2019/04/09/facebook-plans-pass-photographs-advertisers-make-users-stars/ https://guce.engadget.com/consent?brandType=nonEu&gcrumb=G0iOgPQ&lang=en-US&done=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.engadget.com%2F2019%2F04%2F19%2Ffacebook-ai-game-characters-from-video%2F Then, we are asking the student to search on the Internet and find an additional link, or update to the story (usually it will be a newer and more recent article, but in some cases, it might not be newer, leaving that up to the student to decide upon), and write a few lines about why the additional information and link are relevant. (write 1 paragraph) Example work: I read an article on Media Update, https://www.mediaupdate.co.za/social/146144/10-words-youll-use-daily-in-your-social-media-career (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., about “10 words you’ll use daily in your social media career”. I found this so interesting because as being a part of the younger generation it is so accustomed to us to be more inclined to watch Netflix documentaries and YouTube. Within these things we watch real life people, no characters putting on a front but people living their lives. This is how my article came into play, because we just see regular people, but this article helped me realize how much more they really put into their career besides just the filming their daily lives aspect. I realized that just like any other career they have deadlines and quotas they need to reach to maintain, or grow, the algorithm they have for a certain social media platform. To further extend on my previous idea, they will schedule collaborations with other popular people on their platform to broaden their range of fans to both help each other out by gaining more attention and fans, perhaps leading to a boost in their algorithm. The algorithm alone is tricky to figure out, but these new famous influencers have it figured out to a time frame in which they have to post to have the optimal exposure with the certain algorithm they are placed in. They will even go as far as to setting multiple alerts for themselves and doing uploads and waiting for hours to make sure they don’t miss their time frame to post. I wanted to further update this article and make it better in the sense that it should explain the algorithms of social media influencers to a greater extent. I found this article, https://buffer.com/resources/social-media-algorithms-2019 (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., in which is explained the different algorithms and tricks used to get the most exposure out of a post for different social media platforms. For example, it talks about influencers on twitter and how timing and popularity on the tweet truly is very important. Due to different features on twitter you can set it to have the best tweets at the top of your feed essentially leaving the bad ones for very last, therefore missing them and the exposure that comes along with it. If you were to have a broad audience that would like the tweet as soon as you posted it and then the rest of your audience sees it because it’s so popular it would get full exposure. So maybe twitter isn’t the place to start your influencing career, because a place like Instagram is different and they have the explore page which pops up relevant posts for every different user; where your post with only a few hundred likes can be noticed by millions of a certain niche and demographic.
