QUESTION TO BE ANSWERED/OPPORTUNITY- WEARABLE TECH FOR CLARINS THAT CAN TAP INTO THIS NEW REVENUE STREAM. INTRODUCTION Given that predicting the future is difficult, organisations and individuals who have a good understanding of what that future may hold, stand a greater chance of maintaining their competitive advantage. This Unit outlines conventional, established and emergent management and marketing theories and questions their relevance in an increasingly accelerating period of consumer, technological and global development. It examines the potential sustainable business models and new product development models of the future as well as the skills, attributes and knowledge that creative managers will need to acquire. This unit explores techniques of risk assessment and encourages experimentation and curiosity. ASSESSMENT AND PROJECT BRIEF Individual Business Report (3000 words) By building on the concepts, theories and frameworks discussed in this unit and/or explained in the recommended readings you will design an “innovation roadmap” for a commercial company allocated to you by the unit tutors in response to a set brief agreed with company. Indicative content and structure: 1. TITLE PAGE, EXECUTIVE SUMMARY (max 1 page), TABLE OF CONTENTS, LIST OF FIGURES AND ILLUSTRATIONS (not included in the word count); 2. INTRODUCTION – introduce the context and focus of your project and outline content and structure of the report. In this section, you should introduce the orientation of your roadmap, including the key parameters or “boundaries” of your project (i.e. a problem you are trying to solve, an opportunity you are taking advantage of). These aspects will be further explored and discussed throughout the report; 3. METHODOLOGY- in this section, you should outline your search strategy (in relation to the relevant literature and other secondary sources) and your primary research design and methods; 4. RESEARCH/ANALYSIS – in this section, you should include a critical analysis of the external and internal contexts, including key macro and micro trends (e.g. key consumer and technology insights) relevant to the focus of your project. Your analysis and discussion must demonstrate an advanced level of engagement with concepts, theories, frameworks and managerial approaches discussed in this unit. Your project must demonstrate your ability to use a wide range of information sources and to select and evaluate relevant information. You are expected to conduct some form of primary research to complete this assignment. 5. SEARCH FIELDS AND STRATEGIC FIT – discuss how the selected organisation can take advantage of the opportunities emerged from your research and analysis. The aim is to identify relevant “search fields” – future key topics/issues which will form the context of, and guide, the innovation strategy of the organisation; 6. ROAD-MAP TO IMPLEMENTATION – discuss how the innovation strategy outlined in the previous section will be implemented – e.g. consider key milestones, proposed timescale, resources involved. You should add graphic representations of your roadmap in this section of the report (e.g. infographics representing the roadmap and its key milestones; 7. CONCLUSIONS – summarise the key issues discussed in your report. Consider also potential issues, contingency actions and limitations; 8. CRITICAL REFLECTION – With reference to the scope and type of innovation discussed in the road-map section, reflect on the key barriers to the development and implementation of this type of innovation and on the skills managers need to foster an innovation-led culture in fashion organisations. Conclude your statement with a personal development plan aimed at identifying and filling the gaps in your skills set in relation to the issues discussed.
