Video Analysis : “there are more important things than winning the deal” bY Chris Voss
Video Analysis : Chris Voss says in his video that “there are more important things than winning the deal.” In his blog for his business Black Swan Ltd., he says, that “price is only one term and that a good price doesn’t make a good deal.” Using at least three references from this week’s resources and one reference you find in research of your own, answer these questions: Why is compromise a “dirty word” according to Voss? Do you agree or disagree with this, and why? Do you feel that compromise is necessary when negotiating job pay and terms of employment? Why does Voss say to “never split the difference?” Do you agree or disagree with this and why? If you split the difference when negotiating the salary of a new hire, does this make you a bad negotiator? Why or why not? Let’s assume you are the hiring manager for a position in the company where you work now, or want to work. You are getting ready to hire someone for a middle manager position. This person will have 5 direct reports and will need to manage multiple projects on tight timelines and low budgets. The new potential hire needs to be agile. You ask the new potential hire “what are your salary requirements?” The new hire says, “before I answer that, I need to know what value I will add to your organization.” What would you say to answer that question, and why? How would your answer be part of your negotiation strategy? Voss, C. (2015) How to crush your salary negotiation. Black Swan Ltd.
