Tuberculosis
You must find at least FOUR reputable references, ONE of which must be from a peer-reviewed science journal. YOU MUST USE A PEER-REVIEWED RESOURCE FOR THE CELL/MECHANISM and TISSUES/ORGANS. Internet Resources – Use Proquest, Academic Search Premier, PubMed to find online journals; Websites of scientists, government or academic sites devoted to a particular topic Interview or personal communication with an expert or professional Reputable documentaries. Use other sources to verify information in a television or video documentary. DO NOT USE A TEXTBOOK, ENCYCLOPEDIA, OR DICTIONARY AS A REFERENCE. Paper Format – Include sub-headings or section titles – this is required!! Title of Paper (group member names, date, etc) Introduction – Flexible. You could discuss the history of the disease, explain its significance, or even why it is of interest to your group (This part should not be long. A few paragraphs will be sufficient.) Mechanism and Cellular – At the cell level, what causes the disease? Is it a genetic disorder? Is it a pathogen? Describe them. What are cells doing differently to contribute to this disease? Get specific. Cite your sources. Tissues and Organ systems – How do the actions at the cellular level manifest in the tissues and organs? What tissues and organs are specifically affected? Are they unable to do their functions? Do they do the functions differently? Start thinking about how changes to specific cells and tissues affect the homeostasis or other workings of the entire body. Cite your sources. Symptoms – What does the person actually experience? How do these symptoms relate to what is happening in the body? Make connections between what is happening at the Mechanism/Cellular level and Tissue/Organ level to explain why the symptoms are occurring. Again, get specific. Cite your sources. Treatment – What are the most common treatments? Do they treat symptoms (ie., reduce fever, prevent secondary infections) or address the mechanism (kill pathogenic bacteria, increase viral resistance). Explain specifically how or why they work. Make connections with materials presented in the other sections. Conclusions – Take a paragraph (or two) and wrap up your disease. References – Cite correctly using APA or other appropriate format. NOT MLA. Other criteria 10-12 pages. This is meant to be a guideline. If it goes over 12 pages, I can live with that. However, I don’t think you can address a project like this in much less than eight pages. If you are having problems finding information, contact me. Typewritten – your choice whether to double-space or single space with space between paragraphs Spell-checked and subtitles (lacking subtitles or multiple spelling, grammatical, and structural errors are an automatic 10 point deduction.) Above is the teachers instructions/rubric for the research paper and I will also include my current sources and information below in case it will be of any use!
