The textual “truth” behind Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried
In the short fiction of Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried the truth is often the center piece of the story. For example, the characters shy away from or totally misrepresent the truth of what happened, sometimes because they are in denial and other times to protect themselves or others from more significant, scarring emotions. Many times the narrators tell us completely false truths. Many times we can’t even say for sure what truly happened. In your essay, answer this question: in these stories is the narrator a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Sheepdog? http://napavalley.edu/people/LYanover/Documents/English%20121/English%20121%20Tim%20O’Brien%20Speaking%20of%20Courage.pdf#search=speaking%20of%20courage http://www.angelfire.com/psy/amurderofscarecrows/thelivesofthedead.html
