The Supreme Court has been perceived as a body of the federal government that is supposed to be independent from politics. Is this true? In your essay create and support a thesis where you will argue that 1) Supreme Court decisions have been strongly influenced by the dominant political ideas of the time and the Court just followed them, OR 2) the Supreme Court has been a trend-setter and made decisions that were much more progressive than the dominate political ideas of the time; OR 3) It depends (on what?).

Use multiple cases and provide evidence on how courts have made the ruling, as well as how people at the time felt about the issue.
