For the first essay, read the following instructions: An essay is an academic paper whose purpose consists in providing a strong supported idea also known as thesis. WHERE TO START: Read the rubric CAREFULLY. That is what your professor is going to use to evaluate your paper. Give your opinion, support it, but always remember to mention that it is your personal opinion, not facts you found somewhere (if so, cite them using the MLA style). ORGANIZATION: “Follow a specific order” First, gather your ideas and reorganize them in a draft. What do you want to talk about first? Use a more generic order (introduction, thesis, conclusion) and then create sub-categories for each section. STYLE: “the choice of words in your essay” Use synonyms and avoid phrasal verbs. Do not use words you do not know; simply use a more appropriate vocabulary which fits with the purpose of an academic essay. Example: The guy gets to the US and he finds a good job right away. (NO!) >>> The main character, Jende, arrives to the United States and, within a short time, he is able to find a wonderful job opportunity (MUCH BETTER!).
