The history of experiments on human behavior
you’ll need to write 6, 2-page papers. seven topic options are listed on here with more information. You’ll need to choose six of these and write 2-page papers on each one. Paper 1: the history of experiments on human behavior This one is pretty straightforward. A paper on this topic would be writing about several critical psychological experiments that had a large impact on the field of psychology (ex. Stanford Prison Experiment). For this you can watch the video “Classic Studies in Psychology” found through Mission College Library’s Films on Demand. If you choose to use this as a reference you’ll still need to cite it in your paper and you’ll also need to combine it with at least your textbook or one other psychology-based resource. Paper 2: the basic methodology of psychology experiments, and its pros and cons This is discussed a bit in chapter one, when comparing correlational research, experimental and quasi-experimental. A paper on this topic would be talking about each one, when and why they’d be used, and the pros and cons of each. Paper 3: comparison of the different kinds of social science experiments (ex: field studies, vignette studies, survey studies, behavioral studies) This is also pretty straightforward. A paper on this topic would include descriptions of these kinds of research, examples of studies that have used them, and perhaps even some pros and cons or at least why a researcher would choose each one. Paper 4: find examples of social science experiments using different social science methodology (ex: surveys, participant observation), summarize and detail why that methodology was used This topic is essentially an extension of Paper 3, so if you didn’t include examples in Paper 3 you could include and describe studies that used these kinds of methods to collect their data (ie. also naturalistic observation…). Paper 5: the ethics of experimentation on human beings (or animals) This is directly related to what’s discussed in chapter one. Paper 6: summarize a case study, including why this methodology was chosen A paper on this topic would describe a psychological case study in detail (like H.M. for example), and describe why you think the researcher chose this method rather than running a full experiment with more participants, etc… Paper 7: critique an experiment This is pretty straightforward as well. You would find one psychology experiment to discuss/summarize in detail and talk about the methods they used, their findings, if you feel as though they controlled for as many variables as possible, etc… Each paper should be about 2 pages in length, be written in a clear, concise and organized way, and all need to include your references/resources. I look carefully for plagiarism so be sure you’re using your own words to summarize information, or are putting quotations around someone else’s wording combined with the author and full reference. You can use the textbook as one source, but you’ll need to do additional research as well (at least two other sources). The sources you use must be professional, psychology-based journals or texts. you can also search for articles and more information through the American Psychological Association website: http://www.apa.org/pubs/index.aspx Links to an external site.
