The Great Migration of African Americans from the South to the North in the early 20th century.
The Great Migration describes the movement of African Americans from the South to the North in the early 20th century. We will apply what we learned last week about push and pull factors and theories of migration. Think of this as a mini research paper – it should be between 750 and 1000 words in length. Please use these OER resources and outside research to address the following issues in your paper. 1. What is the Great Migration? Define the particulars of this migration. Who moved? How many people? From where to where? 2. What were the push factors of the Great Migration (Explain in some detail) 3. What were the pull factors of the Great Migration (Explain in some detail) 4. Please summarize three of the theories from the previous week. One of them should be the one you chose last week. 5. Based on what you have discovered about the push and pull factors for the Great Migration evaluate how effective each theory is at explaining the Great Migration. 6. Conclude – which theory best fits the Great Migration. Why? What can you conclude about the Great Migration? Are current theories inadequate? What would you add?
