The Craft of Writing

 The Craft of Writing, has provided students with opportunities to explore how composers use writing craft to represent the world to themselves and others. This assessment task invites students to draw on their knowledge, understanding and skills that were developed through the Craft of Writing activities. TASK DESCRIPTION: The assessment task has TWO parts Part One: Imaginative or Discursive Writing (Imaginative) start with ending of story. Compose either an imaginative text or a discursive text in response to the following stimulus: “Then, although it was still the end of the story, I put it at the beginning of the novel, as if i needed to tell the end first in order to go on and tell the rest”. The total word limit is 800 words. Marking guideline for imaginative response: composes a sustained and engaging narrative in response to the stimulus. communicates a compelling point of view that invites audiences to consider assumptions about a storyteller. demonstrates skilful control of language and structure to express ideas appropriate to audience, purpose, context and narrative form. Part Two: Reflection Write a 300 word reflection on the way you have crafted either your imaginative or your discursive text. You might consider the purpose, original and central ideas, the choice of form and audience, the development of character and voice, the setting (if narrative), the use of various forms and features such as metaphor, symbol, focalisation (point of view or perspective) and the drafting and editing process itself.
