Overall Format • Key strategic issue/Problem Identification: 1/2 – 3/4 page • Alternative courses of action: 1-1 1/2 pages • Recommended course of action: 1/2 page • Implementation/Action Plan: 1-1 1/2 pages Key Strategic Issue/Problem Identification: 1/2-3/4 page • What is the primary issue facing the organization/leaders? • Short Intro paragraph that summarizes the specific background or key relevant information/facts that you want to address —no more than 3-4 sentences. Not a summary of the case. • Strategic Issue paragraph that succinctly describes the primary issue facing the organization/leaders o Identify the root cause o Provide facts and evidence from the case to support your claim o 3-5 sentences describing best case, likely case, and worst case if no action Is taken o State your overall goal in addressing this Strategic Issue Leading Complex Change 304 Summer 2019 042019 2 Alternative Courses of Action: 1-1 1/2 pages • What would be two to three different actions you could take that would help you directly address your strategic issue and goal? • Describe each alternative action in 1-2 sentences • What criteria will you use to choose, e.g., cost, speed, etc. • Support your choice of each alternative with references from the reading • Discuss two to three pros of each alternative in 1-2 sentences • Discuss two to three cons for each alternative Recommended Course of Action: 1/2 page • Which alternative is most likely to be successful? • Select only one alternative—you cannot combine them all–what is the one best step to address the strategic issue? • Include: o One to three decision criteria and/or assumptions, with rationale that serves as the basis for your decision (1-3 sentences) o State recommended course of action o Describe specifically why it is the best solution in meeting your goal and weaknesses of others that prevent you from choosing it (2-4 sentences) Implementation/Action Plan: 1-1 1/2 pages • How should the organization/leader accomplish the recommendation? • Include the following: o Goal, Objectives, Specific activities o Who does what o Timeframe for each activity o Measures of success/failure o Possible coordination issues o Possible obstacles/challenges that need to be considered to successfully implement your solution
