Supply Chain Major Project – A Pair of Blue Jeans
MBA Course: Essentials of Supply Chain Management Product: A Pair of Blue Jeans The purpose of this project is to allow you the opportunity to examine a particular product’s supply chain processes as the product makes its way from the raw materials stage (upstream) to the final consumer (downstream) as well as its journey through the recycling or repurposing phase. Map that product, in detail, from the inception of its basic raw materials through its final disposal. Imagine that you are a consultant and that you have been hired by the organization to analyze a particular product manufactured by the firm and to provide a detailed report on ways to improve that product’s supply chain effectiveness and efficiency. Your deliverable for this project will PowerPoint (with extensive supporting notes) whereby you, in detail, describe your product’s life journey and provide significant recommendations for improvement of that product’s supply chain processes. You will also submit a 5-page paper with all supporting notes to back-up your presentation. Make sure to consider all of the following: • Describe a pair of blue jeans product’s life journey and provide significant recommendations for improvement of that product’s supply chain processes. • The presentation should include detailed steps (clearly outlined) that analyze the product supply chain from raw materials to final disposal. • Graphics (think flow charting) accompanied by detailed notes and narrated description should be accurate and specific. • Think of this part of the project as the “as is” or “current state” of the process. • Once you have outlined in detail the complete supply chain for your product, analyze and identify specific flaws in the supply chain. • These impediments could be in manufacturing, procurement, transportation, etc. • Consider aspects of the process that create bottlenecks, create inefficiencies or otherwise impair customer (internal or external) satisfaction from a supply chain and logistics vantage point. • After you have identified the needed areas for improvement (from a supply chain and logistics perspective), identify specific solutions and implementation strategies to remedy these deficiencies. Your solutions should be specific, detailed, realistic and you must address the cost-benefit considerations. • As the consultant, you need to be clear on what the current problems are and what specific solutions should be implemented to correct those problems. • A properly prepared (APA) “Works Cited” page should be included.
