‘Spider the Artist’ by Nnedi Okorafor Analysis

The short story I will be discussing is ‘Spider the Artist’ by Nnedi Okorafor. A social issue that has been raised in the story is the mistreatment of the wife/female by the husband due to not being able to birth a child. The author’s intent in their social critique is to exhibit the uses of a calm remedy in which it will make light of the current situation involving the husbands’ abuse on the wife. For example, going to her backyard to play the guitar by the oil pipeline for the spider. In what ways, does abuse upon women emerge from? How does the remedy of the authors’ social critique help motivate women in desperate abusive situations?
