Then you need to figure out what you are going to say about the ads. What type of “lens” are you using to examine the ads. Are you looking at Sexuality? Race? Gender norms? The only information that you MUST use is the information that backs up what type of argument is used in the ad to persuade a person to purchase what the advertisement is selling. 1.Present evidence of the effectiveness of the ad on the target audience 2.Give examples 3.Show various components of the advertisement 4.Explain some of the outstanding strategies used to persuade the target audience 5.Describe the values and emotion the ad provokes in the readers 6.Describe the visual strategies. Are there bright colors used or stark colors? Are the larger words more important? 7.Describe the ethos, pathos or logos argument that is used in the advertisement Remember! Ethos is Ethics. This is when advertisers use a famous person or a person that is admired will try to convince others to do something. For example, if President Obama recommended for people to buy something and then they would buy it because they trusted him. Pathos is when the advertisers use emotion to try to persuade the buyer to purchase something because of the emotion. For example, when the buyer feels the emotion then they are persuaded to do something. When you see a publix commercial and the people are having fun at Thanksgiving, then the persuasion is that you will buy your dinner from Publix and you will have fun at Thanksgiving. Logos is logic. This is when statistics are used to make a persuasive argument. 4 out of 5 dentists recommend this toothpaste because it is 90% more effective than the other brands. Then the buyer believes that he or she should purchase this because Dentists know which toothpaste to recommend (ethos) and the statistic proves they are correct and this is the use of a logical argument. 1.Describe the textual strategies, including the diction and the tone. Conclusion: 1.Present the most important points justify why the advertisement is successful 2.The present technique used that makes the product outstanding 3.Review the intention of the advertisement 4.Provide your opinion.
