Slavery and the American Revolution

 The political, social, and military upheavals of the Revolutionary period had a tremendous impact on the lives of some African-Americans, while for others very little changed. The period of the American Revolution and the drafting and adoption of the United States Constitution is sometimes regarded as a missed opportunity to end slavery and live up to the rhetoric of the Declaration of Independence that “all men are created equal.” Your task is to read the following primary and secondary sources and write an 8 page paper (roughly 2000 words, 12 pt. font, 1 inch margins), that makes an historical argument or answers a specific research question pertaining to this issue in American history.
