Sidney Lumet’s 1976 film Network
They involve viewing a feature film and discussing it within the context of the course. You will have four films to choose from. The films from which you may choose to discuss are (1) Sidney Lumet’s 1976 film Network, (2) Billy Ray’s 2003 film Shattered Glass, (3) George Clooney’s 2005 film Good Night and Good Luck, and (4) Tom McCarthy’s 2015 film Spotlight. Doing any of these should enrich your appreciation of the business and/or political dynamics at play within the media industries. If you chose to do any of these extra credit papers, after viewing each film (they are all readily available for rental and downloading), you are to write a short 2-4 page (800-1500 words) paper focusing on how the film is relevant today, and what aspects of the film’s storyline reflect concepts discussed within our classroom. This is not to be just a film review. Your grading on these papers will be based on the insights which you provide, the support you give to your arguments, and (to a lesser extent) the quality of your writing
