Sherry Turkle “The Flight from Conversation” ARTICLE
Sources: At least 2 outside sources Assignment: In the past week, everyone focused on an article from the text book. For this paper, everyone should jump from that topic to one of their own choosing. I’d like for everyone to stay under the same umbrella of what they discussed in the article they chose to focus on. If you wrote about an article dealing with gun rights or technology, then your paper topic should be found somewhere in that realm. This does not mean that you have to take up the same argument as the article or even to respond to it. You don’t have to reference it at all if you don’t want to. For example, if the article you analyzed dealt with education or college, your topic can be anywhere in the realm of education. You might argue about campus carry laws, student loans and debt, on-line vs. face-to-face education, technology in the classroom, on-campus safe spaces, etc. Pick something that interests you and that you might have an opinion on. Your job in this assignment is to come up with an argument you can make within the realm of that subject. Try to focus it in so that it’s not too broad. You don’t have to take on all of police and race violence, for example. You might have an argument about the use of body cameras or about the community involvement of police officers. This writing should be an argument of some kind. This shouldn’t simply be a report on the issue. Again, you don’t have to solve the issue, but have some kind of comment or argument to make about some aspect of the issue.
