Part 1 – Following the model presented at the start of the chapter 4.3 in Engaging Minds, select a topic in your discipline and for the grade level you teach and craft four 100-word lesson designs that reflects each of the four moments in education addressed in the text.

Part 2 – Discuss the affordances and constraints contained within the four versions of your lesson (within standardized education, authentic education, democratic citizenship and systemic sustainability in education), and consider the factors that have influenced your own experiences, practices and pedagogies. Students should also pose questions for future personal practices as they relate to these four moments in education. Please reflect on your own professional perspective in relation to these issues specifically, and to teaching, learning and knowing, more generally. The assignment should not exceed 3000 words, and should be accompanied by a list of references. While not required students should feel free to include photos, videos or other multimedia material.
