Parent Advocacy

To begin this assignment, explore the following websites: www.pta.org http://www.nvpep.org/ www.learningfirst.org www.parentsasteachers.org www.parents4publicschools.com After exploring each website, pick a topic that appears on several websites (bullying, standardized testing, school improvement, family engagement, etc.). Then search for research articles (at least 2) related to this issue. Write a paper that addresses the following: – Briefly summarize the major issues surrounding your topic (2 – 3 paragraphs). – Describe several different parent perspectives presented on the topic (2 – 3 paragraphs). – Outline a plan as to how you can encourage parents to advocate for their child (2 – 3 paragraphs). Be specific. Use descriptions of what has worked for others as your guide – Provide your reaction and summary (2 – 3 paragraphs). The student should cite the websites as well as the research articles throughout the paper. The reaction papers MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS and follow APA 6th edition format guidelines. Refer to the grading rubric for additional information.
