Origins of Sociology

 In a paper ranging from 4 – 6 pages, briefly describe the 4 factors that contributed to the emergence of Sociology as a discipline – found in Ch.1 and in the 1st Power Point. When mentioning the Man credited as being the ‘Father of Sociology’, remember to state the reason why he is credited with such a prestigious honor. The next section of your paper will describe the 3 main theoretical perspectives in Sociology. In order to receive an A on this paper, a full explanation of each perspective includes: discussion of the fundamental views, level of analysis, 1 or 2 theorist, & 3 concepts. When you are discussing the concepts, in order to demonstrate comprehension you must use examples. Review the Rubric below – to note, to score the max points on each section, you must complete the items in each box as you move from left to right. – in the rubric, I have listed sample theorist and concepts, to help guide you in completing the paper. You do not have to use the theorist or concepts I sampled there, if you prefer to discuss another theorist or other concepts. In regards to formatting, you must utilize the APA format, which can be found on Canvas – American Sociological Association button in the Welcome to Sociology module. In general: – 12 font, Times New Roman font – the paper must be double spaced – page numbers in the bottom right corner – A cover page – No abstract is needed – Reference Page. The ONLY SOURCE used in this paper is the textbook, Essentials of Sociology by James Henslin. Review the syllabus to see correct citation of textbook When it comes to grammar, the basics you must always have in your papers are: 5-7 sentence paragraphs, transition sentences and topic sentences. Grammar Mistakes to avoid are: short sentences, run on sentences, informal language, and incomplete sentences.
