“Nixon” (1995) – this biographical film deals with the Nixon era.
Watch any historically-related film (or if documentary at least 60 minutes long) which deals with either a presidential and/or foreign policy issue and then compose a critical analysis of the film in a response of 250-words. You are NOT to simply write a summary in which you tell the reader what happened, this is meant to be analytical! This is also NOT a review, rather answer the assigned questions. Possible Examples: “JFK” (1991) – this film deals with the JFK assassination and related events. “Nixon” (1995) – this biographical film deals with the Nixon era. “Thirteen Days” (2000) – this film details the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and the JFK era. “Black Hawk Down” (2001) – this film deals with the 1993 events in Mogadishu, Somalia during the Clinton era. “Lone Survivor” (2013) – this film deals with SEALs in Afghanistan and related events. “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” (2016) – this film deals with the Benghazi-related events of the Obama era. NOTE: If you want to watch a particular film think about this: does it deal with foreign policy and/or a particular president? If so, proceed. Email if you are not sure. Answer these questions in your response: What did this film contribute to your understanding of the topic? Why would you recommend (or not) the film for others to learn about the presidency or foreign policy? Explain using examples. If you pick a documentary, do not summarize – rather determine what the three main takeaways are from the program. What are the three main points the documentary is attempting to make? Explain the relevance. Note: Be sure to list the name of the film or documentary and if you found it online, list the URL from youtube or wherever it was located.
