NUR 2943L Leadership Assignment 1. For this assignment you are to arrange for a day that you will work along the charge nurse for your unit. 2. Make arrangements to arrive early so that you are able to observe the nurse manager/charge nurse make your shift’s patient/nurse assignments (this is usually done by the prior shift’s charge nurse). 3. After your shift, search for a tool or decision making resource for making clinical assignments (for example based on patient acuity or professional organization standards). 4. Write a scholarly paper where you discuss the process of making patient assignments that you observed. In your paper also discuss the tool that you found and how it can help in the process of making patient assignments. Finally, discuss the clinical leadership within your unit and the clinical facility. If a nurse was concerned about her patient assignment for the day, what would be the chain of command in your unit/facility? Assignment objectives: 1. Analyze clinical patient assignments for the assigned unit. 2. Critically reflect on working along the unit charge nurse. 3. Integrate a tool or decision making resource for clinical assignments. 4.
