Neorealism in Italian Women Studies
This is an abstract for my paper. During the 20th century, influential directors such as the Taviani brothers and Lina Wertmuller spread neorealism through their films that help us remember the past and to not repeat it. In the film, The Night of the Shooting Star by Vittorio and Paolo Taviani, the Taviani brothers focus on sharing their own memories and stories while traveling to local villages in Italy. The Taviani brothers use neorealism to share these stories and memories of what it was like to live in Italy during the 1940’s. Both films, share with their audiences the historical truth of living in Italy during the 1930’s and 1940’s. In Love & Anarchy by Lina Wertmuller, Wertmuller starred in most of her films to share her memories of the 1930’s in Italy. Wertmuller used her film as a warning to remind people of what life was like during the 1930’s. The Taviani brothers and Wertmuller became major influencers of neorealism in the film industry during the 1970’s and 1980’s. Need 2 secondary and 2 primary sources but the movies are the 2 primary sources so just need 2 secondary sources that could help back up this topic.
