OVERVIEW In this assignment, you will assemble an annotated bibliography of 10 helpful music sites that may be helpful to you in this class. Here is an excellent resource for writing an annotated bibliography. INSTRUCTIONS An annotated bibliography is a list of citations of different types of documents like books, articles, or even sound recordings. An annotated bibliography not only informs your reader of the quality, accuracy and effectiveness of each source, but will also provide you, the writer, with information that may be of use in a research project. In this case, your citations should help you with subjects covered in this course. You should assemble a list of 10 websites that will be useful to you as you research different musical subjects in this class. Subjects should include copyright sources for music listening, different fields of musical study such as music theory, musicology, and ethnomusicology; guides to different types of live music in the area where you live like classical concerts, jazz performances, rock concerts, folk concerts, and children’s concerts; and any other sites that you think might come in handy when you do your research for the upcoming papers in this class, like music from a country in your own cultural background, and music in the movies. Start by assembling your bibliographic citations. These should be in MLA format. Consult the page on MLA Works Cited: Electronic Sources from the Purdue OWL MLA Formatting and Style Guide for an excellent guide to citing websites. Make sure you alphabetize your citations. Then, write your assessment of each website. This should include a summary of the information provided in the site, and an assessment of the quality, accuracy and effectiveness of the site, as well as a reflection on how the site may be helpful to a music appreciation student like yourself.
