1:Media Convergence: Briefly explain the three types of media convergence. Provide and examine specific examples of each. 2:Commercial Media: Commercial forces shape the content of media delivery every day. How does the profit motive impact content? Refer to the textbook’s definitions to answer the question and then provide your own example(s) to demonstrate your point. 3:The Music Industry, Digitized: Using at least two specific examples, discuss how the Internet is fundamentally changing the recording industry and what impact these changes have had and/or are having. Utilize the course materials; do not rely solely upon your own experiences. 4:Film vs. TV: Referring to Pavlik and McIntosh, explain the historical tension between the movie industry and television. Consider one or more of the following: Why did the movie industry feel threatened by television, what were some of its actions against shifts favoring television? What is the relationship between the movie industry and television today? Why would the film industry feel less threatened by television now than in the past? 5:The Surprising Advantages of Radio: Identify at least three distinct advantages of radio over other types of broadcast media. Explain how these advantages make radio an attractive medium. Utilize the readings to compile your list of advantages. If you use outside sources, provide citations. 6:Packaged Media: Media critics and journalists have complained that news media is “packaged.” What do they mean when they talk about the “packaging” of information for the consumer? Utilize the readings to explain what packaging is as well as its implications. Provide specific examples.
