Literary Analysis of Historical Fiction (English 1A)

Identify an example from your ancestral history where deficit frameworks, at the structural/institutional level, have served to be detrimental to your people. Provide a response to this by referencing at least ONE aspect of Community Cultural Wealth (Yosso) and ONE of the instructions provided in Medicinal History (Levins-Morales). -Identify a time when you have held a deficit mindset about another person’s culture, race, and/or ethnicity. Analyze the factors that shaped that deficit-minded perspective. What strategies could you use to counter that mindset (refer to both Yosso & Levins-Morales)? -Evaluate your own understanding of how racism AND colonialism have intersected in your own familial history. Cite at least 3-4 passages from BOTH Yosso & Levins-Morales. -Decide on a creative way to release the damage done by deficit-mindsets fueled by racism and colonialism. Describe the process.
