Judging project success: are factors, other than the triple constraints, have a major influence on IT project management success?
Critical Reading Task: Judging project success: are factors, other than the triple constraints, have a major influence on IT project management success? Write a 750-1000 words post to Critically analyse and evaluate whether factors other than those related to the triple constraints may also have a major influence on project management success (and how/why or how/why not?) To answer this question effectively, you will need to read extensively to support your argument. There is no need to evaluate the triple constraint factors as these have already been established as critical to the success of IT projects. NB: It will be sufficient to identify three to four additional factors, as long as they are substantiated by facts. Critical reading requirement: Given you are provided with three articles (to cite) and are required to cite at least two additional references, it is expected that you: 1. critically read these sources to identify and understand the authors’ views about other factors, and 2. evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the authors’ different views before you write your response to the question If you base your analysis on the evaluation findings from your critical reading, you will be in a position to write a more robust response. That is, a response that shows critical understanding of various authors’ different views on the different factors supporting IT project management success. Thus giving you an opportunity to critically evaluate and identify three or four critical factors other than those factors attributed to the triple constraints. NB: Please make reference in your answer to case studies, examples of critical factors that have positively impacted on projects, as well as statistics. This critical engagement with evidence will add weight to your argument. Learning objectives: • To develop critical thinking skills in analysing and evaluating peer reviewed publications • To critically evaluate whether additional factors, other than those attributed to the triple constraints, could be recognised as suitable major factors in IT project management success References: You must include references from the following articles in your QA Forum post as well as the two additional articles you must find. 1. Introduction – introduction can just be a couple of sentences for this QA forum as it is only 750-1000 words. Use the introduction to define what is meant by project success (a reference must be provided), and to explain the context and the structure of your post 2. Body – the body focuses on your answer to the question and should be succinctly written, clearly articulated, and move coherently from one point to another. Make sure you answer the question. 3. Conclusion – Brings your findings to a conclusion as mentioned above and identifies the three or four factors you have identified from the literature that are important to IT project management success.
