Reflecting on theories of change and program components. Now that you have a program identified, what do you think are the theories of change that underlie the program’s approach? What are the program components–inputs, outputs, long and short term objectives?

By now we’ve dealt with issues of credibility and quality in evaluation from several different angles, beginning with what kinds of data and methods are best, to ways of naming the standards for evaluation work. This week emphasized “utilization” as a key goal for evaluation. For this log entry, reflect on your own criteria for “good” evaluation (“hard data”? strong participation from stakeholders? rich stories? multiple sources of data? efficiently done?) What types of data do you find most credible? Next, identify and suggest strategies for increasing the credibility and usability of the evaluation you are planning. How might your design support the goal of utilization?
