Is monopoly a problem?
Description
The existence of cartels, oligopolies and monopolies has been an important issue for economists at least since Adam Smith. The freedom to monopolise, whether by business or labour unions, impinges on the freedom of other market actors. Do more strongly monopolised sectors of the economy gain at the expense of the less monopolised and consumers? How do the economic gains from scale economies weigh against the power of large corporations? I have attached a reference below ( please only focus on chapter VIII starting from page 119-136) please use it and reference it in the paper. Please use 5 additional appropriate scholarly sources as well. – Friedman, M. (1962) Capitalism and Freedom, Chicago, University of Chicago Press, 119-136
