Indian culture

July 29, 2024/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Admin

Write a speech and a separate outline with bibliography.  India is known for its spirituality and in recent times for being the back office of major American firms. There is a strong trade relation between India and America and thereby it becomes important for many Americans, particularly those engaged in international business, to know more about the Indian culture. Indians are more oriented toward collectivism which is a phenomenon across the eastern world but it continues to remain strong in India. They are proud of their families and clan ties which do provide support but also takes away freedom of grown up adults, as authority and hierarchy is in place. Indian culture is a high context culture as most of them are shy to say clear no and many a times facial expression becomes important in dealing with them (Sue Bryant, 2019). Another of their culture important attribute is high avoidance of uncertainty, as they generally prefer consistency and do not believe in taking many risks. Gender gap is very high in India signifying a competitive culture rather than a co-operative culture. They value silence and interestingly do associate it with Buddha who was one of their many spiritual teachers.  Indian culture is symmetrically opposite to American culture in its values. They believe in collectivism but majorly we believe in individualism. They have a high context culture while we believe in a clear communication. We are being more encouraged to take risks and be entrepreneurs while most of Indians believe in risk avoidance, though now days we are hearing of startup boom in India too (Karen Gilchrist, 2018). We are aiming to have a flat society where anybody and everybody can speak while they value silence and authority. Despite the vast difference in culture, it is noteworthy that the oldest democracy America and the largest democracy India do get well together on humanity common values of love and tolerance. Most Indians learn English and many of them work in American multi-national corporations, both in the United States and their Indian branch offices. References: 1.
