The objective of this individual assignment is to observe and apply the logistics topics and business concepts you have studied in class. You have to approach a business (the business I select is IKEA) that provides information about logistics systems to you, including at least five of the following areas: • Supply chain management • Information technology used for tracking and managing materials and data • Demand forecasting and management • Packaging • Transportation • Distribution and warehousing • Inventory policies • Procurement In your report, I expect a thorough analysis of logistics system including your plan and suggestions for improving their operations. This may include financial estimates of the total cost of logistics and comparing available alternatives. Your data may come from various resources including market data on packaging, transportation and warehousing. Be sure to document your sources. Such a summary would typically provide a brief synopsis of the importance of the topic being studied, methodologies used for collecting and analyzing information/data, main findings, and unique contributions of the project to our knowledge and understanding of supply chains. In addition, the main body of the report should include an executive summary and conclusion. A list of references should be provided. Proper citations, APA should be used. Your report must include the following: • An introduction providing background information about the company • Address at least five areas listed above, separated in sections. You need to relate your observation and analysis with the material in this course. • Under each section of your report, your comments and critiques on current practice is required. • A conclusion, summarizing the key points of your report. You will use a professional format for your report. Titles must be descriptive and clear, sources used must be properly referenced, and also any pictures, graphs, or raw data tables must be in appendices.
