Identification of unknown bacteria in water source
The scientific abstract is a short (300-500 word) overview of the article that should forecast all the major elements of the report/article. Scientific abstracts: • introduce journal articles • inform readers about the article’s content • help readers decide whether or not to read article • overview conference programs, abstract collections, and book chapters When writing and abstract: 1. Write 1-2 introduction sentences that explain the topic, purpose, and research question(s). –> Why is this experiment useful? (Importance), Where the water sample was collected (Tropical Park Miami FL) and the characteristics of the sample (ideal Temperature about 25 C, pH 8.6). Mention that four different bacterial colonies were isolated from the original water sample, incubated at 37 C and further tested for identification. 2. Write 1-2 sentences describing your research methods (this may also include the type of data analysis you used). –> Mention the biochemical test we have done to identify and classify the unknown bacteria: MacConkey, Casein, Phenylethyl alcohol agar, Eosin Methylene Blue, Mannitol Salt Agar, Phenol Red Mannitol broth, Methyl Red, Citrate, Lactose, Sulfide Indole Motility, Starch Hydrolysis. Also, we are going to perform DNA isolation to further identify the bacteria. 3. Write 1-2 sentences containing your conclusions and recommendations.
