1. For this assignment, you will create a 5-minute narrated PowerPoint presentation. You can select any topic for your PowerPoint. It can be related to your content area, or it can be unrelated to teaching and education. In your PowerPoint, you will apply two or three Information Processing principles in order to maximize our learning of your topic. The PowerPoint must be 4-6 minutes in length, and must have a narrated audio component. “I already come up with the presentation I just need two slides made on whatever the IP principles are and it applies to the presentation I have already created”. 2. Select either a single objective or a cluster of objectives from your curriculum area. Propose how to teach that one objective or cluster of objectives for memory, analytical, creative, and practical learning. To post: Click on “add a new discussion topic.” For the subject, type in the general curriculum area and age group (e.g., “9th English). It needs to be something about ELA.In the message box, first type in (or paste in) the objective or cluster of objectives. Then, describe how you would teach for memory, analytical, creative, and practical learning. You will have 4 activities (one per type of learning). 3. This discussion forum will focus on teaching strategies to promote the development of language and literacy. Please post at least twice. Topics may include any of the content from your reading or the PowerPoint lecture. Possible topics might be: 1. Have you had personal experiences with using phonics vs. whole language to teaching reading? If so, what were those experiences? 2. What are some of the most challenging aspects of teaching composition to high school students? What strategies or techniques have you found successful? 3. National statistics indicate that relatively small numbers of American adolescents read for fun. Why do you think this is the case? What strategies or programs might encourage adolescents to read more? Do adults read for fun? Should they? Just answer these three questions. 4. You will right two paragraphs on identity and related issues (e.g., supporting a positive identity development, ethnic identity, racial violence, gender identity, etc.). Choose two topics to write about. 5. This dicussion forum will focus on the Kamii article. Please post at least twice. The questions below are ideas for discussion. You may disuss topics that are not listed below. 6. 7. What is the difference between autonomy and heteronomy? 8. How does punishment influence how children learn moral autonomy? 9. What are sanctions by reciprocity? Describe the types of sanctions by reciprocity. How do sanctions by reciprocity differ from punishment? 10. How can teachers help children develop intellectual autonomy? 11. How do you feel about what Kamii says about autonomy and heteronomy, the respective outcomes and teaching methods, and the purposes of education? Pick three questions to write about.
