Human-animal relations in three cultures
Human-animal relations in three cultures
Required: as resources for the paper, you must use these three class materials: (1) The Old Way: A Story of the First People, (2), Nuer Journeys, Nuer Lives: Sudanese Refugees in Minnesota, and (3) Condor Qatay (the taped ethnographic play by Catherine Allen). You must also draw on selected key concepts and insights from this class in general. In other words, I want you to convince me that you have a grasp of major insights in sociocultural anthropology by interweaving them into the paper. You should not use any resources beyond class materials and class-based learning. The paper should be 1000 words long. I will likely consider a shorter paper to be skimpy; a longer paper is likely to indicate a lack of careful editing. In the case of papers over the word limit, I will read and grade only the first 1000 words or so. This paper is quite short. Therefore you must to take extra care to use the allotted space to make good, solid, creative points about the three cultures–no fluff, no direct quotations. Other details about the paper: The paper must be double-spaced, in 12 point font size and paginated. Keep a file of your drafts and final version as back-up. The professor is not responsible for “lost” papers. Proofread the paper carefully. Correct grammar and spelling count! Think about your argument, write with conviction, and, of course, provide an engaging title for your paper. Provide a word count at the end of the paper. References Cited: You should include list of all references cited including the three main sources (Thomas, Holtzman, and Catherine Allen’s play). I specifically require that you not use sources outside our class. You may use lectures and other taped material, material from the Miller textbook, C&C, and comments from classmates on Blackboard (cited as, for example: Susan Smith’s comment about cultural relativism, Blackboard, DATE; or AL 4).
