BELOW are discussions 13 and 14 previous homework assignments that will help you with this essay: Discussion 14 question and answers below A) Who in 2019 would be Hardin’s audience, and why would they support Hardin’s ideas? B) What errors can be found in Hardin’s “Lifeboat Ethics”? Explain with examples from the reading. C) Considered historically, is there a value to Hardin’s “Lifeboat Ethics”? Explain concrete examples. Clearly label your answers A/B/C. A) Some bioterrorists who introduced diseases with the aim of killing many people would likely support Hardin’s words and thoughts. This is because of them engage in bio terrorism with the claims that will aid in saving the environment and humans by controlling the issue of how population and natural resources scarcity. In Hardin’s theory of the lifeboat with fifty people and a hundred more people swimming and struggling in the waters; he believed that the best and most suitable way to ensure the survival of the human race and the environments natural resources by letting 100 people in the water die. He believes this will help sustain the lives of the 50 people already in the boat thus saving humanity. Hardin’s beliefs are mutual with those oft the bio terrorists since in each case getting rid of some people in the survival and sustainability and that is why they would support his ideas. B) Hardin’s states that maintaining the initial lifeboats number a fifty and not adding even the ten is the only way of ensuring the survival of humanity. He says that it is the best idea because it will completely ensure that the people in the boat are also protected against external factors such as unpredictable natural catastrophes. This is an error and a misguided thought. It is not 100% that just because the boat maintains the fifty people only. They will be protected against natural calamities and survive.A large wave may hit the boat, there might be a uncontrollable storm,or the boat may even collide with an iceberg. All these catastrophes may still occur, and all fifty people in the boat could die as a result and humanity then will still not have survived. Hardin also claims that providing food to the developing nations is only hurting these nations more regarding other resources. He says proving food for them only decreases the flow of other resources needed. He uses India as an example and says that saving lives there only leads to an environmental devastation. It is not fair to just assume that poor nations are not doing anything to try to develop their countries. He assumes that individuals doing anything to try and eradicate their environmental problems. C) There is a value of ” Life boat Ethics when it comes to the matter of the common. as he says “One of the major tasks of education today should be the creation of such an acute awareness of the dangers of the commons that people will recognize its many varieties”. This is important because educating people in the different nations about the tragedy of the commons and how it will affect the nations directly will make them come together and handle there sources more efficiently to ensure sustainability and maintain the peace. Policies such as government regulations can be formulated to ensure every nation avoids misuse thus environmental devastation will be controlled. Humanity everywhere will be able to survive as the commons increase positively.
