Horticulture businesses

Research your local area for horticulture businesses including nursery/growers, garden centers, florists, greenhouses, landscape designers, or garden service/maintenance companies. (Please do not include building supply or large grocery/retail merchandise stores such as Lowes, Home Depot, Menards or Walmart for this assignment) Find a company that you would like to know more about, or that has someone on staff that can answer your questions about the garden/landscape profession. Arrange to meet with the owner, designer, or key personnel for an interview. Prepare your interview ahead of time. Make sure to ask pertinent questions that inquire on the industry- both current and future trends, the job responsibilities, educational and skill requirements, the clientele, work hours, career prospects, etc. (This is a great opportunity so take it seriously. Dress and interact professionally for the interview- several students have been offered jobs because of this assignment!) Make notes during the interview. You may interview several people for this assignment to get several perspectives Prepare a written report outlining the key discussion points of the interview(s). Summarize your findings and your impressions of the industry and career opportunities, both good and bad. This report should be a minimum of 1200 words.
