Hollywood movies both reflect and influence people’s conception of beauty for generations
Thesis Statement: Pauline Breedlove, embodies the notion that beauty standards are socially constructed. Because of she acutely aware of her racial dissimilitude, aware of the ‘beauty’ and prestige and her ‘ugliness,’ which is subjectively positioned against the white standard. Outlines:
1. Hollywood movies both reflect and influence people’s conception of beauty for generations. This unbreakable social notion made them believe they are not pretty. Page 38-30: Paragraphs about “ [T]hey believe they were ugly” Page 108-109: Paragraphs about Pauline’s reaction when Pecola splat blueberries on the floor. 3. Everyone lives within one or more communities which has each own social concept. It is hard for people who live inside of the circle to jump out, moreover in the case of those social class is highly dependent on main stream. These becomes pressure in multiple forms such as psychological problems or injury-related behaviors.
