July 29, 2024/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Admin

This is gonna be a powerpoint presentation Background Information From the birth of modern civilization almost every ancient civilization used some form of prisons as a mean to detain and remove personal freedoms of incarcerated people. The original purpose of confining a person within a prison was not to punish them but was a means of keeping the perpetrator of a crime detained until the actual punishment could be carried out. As time went on, prisons started morphing into correctional facilities that started implementing the concept of rehabilitation and reform of prisoners. Instructions 1. Review media 4.4: Corrections, Rehabilitation and Criminal Justice in the United States https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgV2FBcdHIY&feature=youtu.be 2. Research the history of prisons in the United States, from colonial times until today using the Off Campus Library Services (OCLS) or the internet. Be sure you are using credible sources. Note: Credible sources are ones the reader can trust. We trust that the authors ideas are his or her own and can be backed up with evidence. Use online scholarly databases such as InfoTrac, LexisNexis, and EBSCO, which provide access to the latest research in hundreds of areas. Newspapers and magazines are also rich sources of information about what is happening now. a. One of these web sites that is not considered appropriate for academic work is Wikipedia, http://www.wikipedia.org. Although it provides good background information, by its very nature, it is a wiki, which is a fluid, changing document and can be edited by anyone. Each page has an Edit tab. This tab gives information about how recently a page has been changed in some way. Even the most benign topics reflect a change within the past month. One way you might be able to use Wikipedia is to scroll to the bottom of an entry page and look at the sources that are listed for writing that page. Your faculty probably will not accept a Wikipedia article as a source.” 3. Create a fifteen to twenty-four slide PowerPoint presentation. Include what you would say during a presentation in the speaker notes section for each slide. a. Your presentation should outline the historical development of prisons in the United States. b. Your presentation should also include the various philosophies and punishments used in each stage of prison development.
