Hemi-spatial neglect syndrome
Description
Research Paper Guidelines and Standards: A 7-8 page research paper will be required (no less than 7 and no more than 8 pages of text). The paper must be factual in nature rather than reaction oriented. No personal accounts, beliefs, or anecdotal information should be included in this assignment. You may use documented case studies from scholarly sources. The paper may not be written in first or second person (“I”, “We”, “You”) and must be written using a consistent pattern of person and tense. Sources must be cited in full using either the APA or MLA format. Instructions for both may be found on-line or in the Library at MCC. Sources must be cited in text throughout the paper but may not exceed four sentences of direct quotes on any page and may not total more than 15% of the entire paper. The research paper must have a minimum of 7 full pages of text. There must be a title page bearing the student’s name, as well as a full citation page and bibliography. The text must begin at the top of the first page. Any pictures, charts, or graphs may be added at the end of the 7 pages of text as an addendum and will not count in the 7 page minimum requirement. Please be certain to follow all guidelines (including length and in-text citations). If the student does not follow the guidelines, the paper will lose significant points (a minimum of 20) and may actually be graded as a zero. Lack of appropriate citations will automatically result in a grade of zero. If you do not know how to write a research paper, please go to ASC or the library for help within the next few weeks of this course. Please begin your research immediately. Do not wait until the last minute. The research paper must be typed* (double-spaced), well organized, and fairly free of spelling and grammatical errors. All work must be at the college level to be accepted by the instructor. Excessive grammatical/spelling errors, sentence fragments, and typos (more than 15) will be deemed non-college material and will be graded as a zero. Be sure to proofread your work and use spell/grammar check. It is suggested that you have someone else proofread the paper as well. You must have a minimum of three quality resources other than a psychology textbook, none of which should be Internet sources. Do not plagiarize or cut and paste off of the Internet. Please refer to the course syllabus/instructor policies for information on plagiarism. Your research paper topic will be a psychological disorder/condition/phenomenon other than the major disorders discussed in chapter 14. Your paper should focus on current research as well as available case studies. Included in your research should be a thorough explanation of the disorder/condition/phenomenon; history and statistical information which will include case studies; as well as causes, symptoms, progression, prognosis and available treatment (if any). There will likely be medical components as well as psychological aspects, which are the preferred focus.
