The following servers as general guidelines for the minimum requirements of what should be included in the course research paper Introduction/Overview/Hook The introduction of your paper should describe the rationale, purpose, and scope of the research. Topics often addressed in this section include: Problem statement, Background to the Problem, Research Objectives/Questions, Statement of Purpose, Rationale (or Significance) of the study, and a brief summary of the overall study. Theoretical Framework/Research Question This section presents the conceptual approach (What theoretical perspective/lens used to explain topic of interest?) of your report. What is the research question that you are trying to answer? Literature Review This section of your report is a review of earlier and current work (empirical or otherwise) that is pertinent to the course research paper topic. Emphasis should be placed on pertinent findings, relevant methodological issues, and major conclusions. Establishing continuity between earlier works and the current course paper is a must. Consensus areas as well as those areas of disagreements in the literature should be addressed. Methods The methods section of your report should include experiment design, analytical techniques/methods, data collection, participants/subjects, procedure, data/statistical analysis, limitations; or The method section of your report (if it is a systematic review of the literature) should include: the databases used to search/locate articles; keywords (i.e., the terms used to locate articles to include in your report); article inclusion criteria [specify the criteria used to select articles to include in the review/report, such as: articles must be directly related to the topic; articles must be peer-reviewed; articles must be less than 10 years old; qualitative and/or quantitative studies included, articles must be based on work that was undertaken in the United States, etc.]; list how many articles were included in the review; specify the range of years the articles were published, etc. Discussion of Data/Results The results of your report should include data (quantitative and/or qualitative) presented along with a detailed analysis of the data, description and discussion of the findings to the problems and questions posed on previous sections of your report. Inferences and specific summary statements are included in the discussion. Conclusion and Future Work This section of your report includes general or specific conclusions that are drawn on the study. You need to articulate the meaning, implications and limitations of your findings, and possible future work. References The reference section contains the entire source materials referred to in the body of your report.
