Film -The Room
Please use the film The Room (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Room_(film)) For this essay, you will be thinking about how comedy functions in a film that is not principally defined as a comedy. First, read CHAPTER FIVE in Geoff King’s book Film Comedy entitled “Comedy Beyond Comedy.” Next, pick a film that has comic elements, but is not primarily defined as a comedy. You may use a film that King mentions, but are encouraged not to choose one that he discusses at length. In your essay, analyze the roles and effects of comic elements in your chosen film. Depending on your choice, you may want to consider questions such as: What distinguishes comic elements from non-comic ones and how do they relate to one another? What is the role of comic elements within the narrative and how do they affect your experience of the film? Why might the filmmaker choose to blend comic and non-comic elements in this particular way? Is the comedy intentional or not and what bearing does that have on your response? In your essay, include at least one in-depth examination of a particular scene and use King’s chapter to frame your argument about how the film uses comedy
