Families 2019
Watch the following 2013 documentary – “Two Dads, Two Moms: Gay Couples and their Families” (Filmoption International) Write a 2 Page sociological review of the documentary. You are free to reflect on any aspect of the documentary that you find compelling, but the following questions might help: –How do the couples and families featured in the documentary reflect trends documented by Patterson or Cohen? –How do families in the documentary deal with stereotypes associated with same-sex parents? –How do the families compare across the US, France, and Spain? –What seems more challenging for the families? –What, if anything, has changed since the documentary was released in 2013? Be sure to reference at least one course reading below: (1) Dr. Zevallos’s (2018) Website with an Overview of the Sociology of Sexuality. (2) Charlotte Patterson’s (2016) “Sexual Orientation and Family Lives,” in G.W. Peterson and K.R. Bush (ed.) The Handbook of Marriage and the Family, New York: Springer. (3) Philip N. Cohen’s (2014) “Family Diversity is the New Normal for America’s Children,” The Council on American Families, September 4.
