Exit West Thesis Paper
Exit West Thesis Paper
Paper details Write a thesis-driven essay in response to one of the following prompts: What symbolic function do the doors serve in the novel? Why do you think Hamid chose to include this fantastical element in an otherwise very “realistic” world? The city where Nadia and Saeed live and from which they flee is unnamed, the only unnamed location in the book. Why do you think that is? What effect does this omission have on the reader? Is Exit West a hopeful book? Dos and Don’ts Don’t include your prompt in your essay. (It should be obvious upon reading the essay.) You may summarize relevant portions of the texts when necessary, but do not simply write a summary or summaries. All essays must have a well-articulated thesis, clear organization, and use quotes, paraphrases, and summarization of key portions of the text to support the argument. You are expected to show evidence of close reading—note the minor details and how they relate to the broader point you are making about the text.
