Evaluating the role of urban green and blue spaces in bridging cultural and social divides for indigenous health and wellbeing promotion.
Paper details:
This is a qualitative study that examines the role that urban green and blue spaces play in in connecting communities through social cohesion and connectedness (this could be in form of community gardens where sustainable food is produced or parks where shared activities take place). It also examines the cultural practices carried out in urban green spaces and how these contribute to the promotion of the cultural identity of indigenous people. The research further examines the “five ways to wellbeing” (Connect, active, give, learn and take notice) as activities that could be carried out in urban green spaces, and how all these contribute to the health and wellbeing of indigenous people. The occurrences of these in an urban environment should help the indigenous people connect with their heritage in cities, away from the rural communities.
